16th World Federation of Rose Societies Convention

The Federation of Rose Societies of South Africa invites rose lovers the world over to attend the 16th World Rose Convention. The Convention will include lectures, a rose exhibition, garden visits as well as photo opportunities and a chance to network with fellow rosarians.

Fri., October 12, 2012 Morning Rose & photographic exhibition open to delegates and public
  Late morning Opening Ceremony and Welcome followed by lunch and viewing of Vodaworld rose garden (18,000 roses)
Sat., October 13, 2012  
  1. Rose & photographic exhibition open to delegates and public
  2. World class flower demonstrations given by renowned flower arrangers
  3. Garden visits / sightseeing

  1. Church servce for who wish to attend
  2. Visit to Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site where the fossilised remains of hominids (Mrs Ples) & ancient forms of animals and plants can be seen plus much, much more

Pre-Convention Tours

Tour 1: October 6-10 2012 Tour to the world-renowned Kruger National Park which offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, this national park of nearly 2 million hectares, is unrivaled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Game viewing in this Park is unique and will create memories of a life-time. 7 – 8 hour drive to reserve gates and malaria precautions are essential.
Tour 2: October 8-10 2012 Tour to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve which is set in the crater of a long-extinct volcano and is the fourth largest park in South Africa, covering an area of 55 000 hectares. The beauty of the Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the Mankwe Dam. Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, open grasslands and wooded valleys and thickets. Only a 2 hour drive to the reserve gate and malaria free.

Post-Convention Tour

October 19 2012 The City of Bloemfontein, well known as the rose capital of South Africa, will host convention delegates the first night of this tour. Their breath taking annual summer rose show and competition, as well as beautiful public and private gardens, will be the main features of this visit.
October 20-23 2012 An early evening flight will transport tour participants to “the fairest Cape in all the world” where roses were first introduced over 350 years ago. Delegates will be treated to visits to the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens at the base of Table Mountain, the Stellenbosch Winelands, the Durbanville trial garden, private gardens and much, much more
